Top 5 Dos And Don’ts

The Top Habits Your Gainesville GA Cosmetic Dentist Cares About

Welcome to our blog and thanks for stopping by. Weber Family Dental wants to offer you some easy hints when caring for your teeth.

Because You Deserve a Healthy Smile

1.Do… remember you are just wiping the plaque away before it turns to tartar. A gentle toothbrushing at the correct angle can gently wipe the bacteria away. Once plaque has settled into tartar, no amount of scrubbing at home can responsibly remove it.
Don’t… scrub your teeth and gums until your gums recede and expose parts of your tooth you don’t want exposed.

2.Do… remember your gums need to be cared for. Proper brushing and regular flossing can keep your gums healthy and strong.
Don’t… wait to see your dental professional about sore or bleeding gums, tooth sensitivity or mouth sores.

3.Do… create a routine for brushing and flossing that leaves ample time to spend a full two minutes gently cleaning all the nooks and crannies of your delicate mouth.
Don’t… forget to have a new floss package ready to use when your current one runs out. Waiting days to get to the store for more can disrupt a good routine.

4.Do… make regular dental visits for cleaning and examination by a professional. Call Weber Family Dental to set up your initial consultation today. 770-532-8521 We’ve got the phones ready! Cancer screenings, cavity checks and removal of tartar from the teeth are vital to maintaining a healthy mouth.
Don’t… worry if you don’t have the healthiest of mouths. Weber Family Dental can help you get back on track. Whether you’re looking for sedation dentistry, dental implants, or root canals, we can restore what has been lost or counsel with you on the best options. If dental crowns or teeth whitening is what it takes, then we are equipped and ready to serve the Cumming, Norcross, Athens communities.

5.Do… enjoy your mouth and all the wonders it is capable of.
Don’t… put off coming in to find out about the possibility and cost of cosmetic dentistry, implants, veneers, braces, etc.

Lawrenceville Dentists Know When A Simple Problem Can Become Serious

Let Your Gainesville GA General Dentist Alleviate Those Mouth Sores

Today in the Lawrenceville family dentist blog we are going to discuss those small irritations in the mouth that can have the potential of becoming big problems.

Injuries, sores, or inflammation in the mouth can be very uncomfortable. These non-specific irritations, called stomatitis, have many different causes. They may be caused by cold sores, gum disease, or biting the inside of your mouth. They may also be caused by the irritation that results from broken teeth or braces.

In fact, any inflammation of the membranes in the mouth can be classified as stomatitis. Stomatitis can affect a person’s ability to speak, eat, and even to fall asleep at night. These pests can really have an impact on the lives of Cumming, Norcross, and Athens residents!

The good news is that most of these irritations clear up on their own in less than two weeks. However, there is a possibility that a viral or bacterial infection can occur, so it’s important to let your Lawrenceville dentist know about these sores. Even if there are no complications, your dentist can help you treat the symptoms of stomatitis with pain relievers and at-home remedies such as salt water rinses.

Hi, my name is Dr. Joseph Weber. I take care of patients in the Lawrenceville area at my comfortable and friendly Gainesville dental office. I want my patients to have the best oral health possible. I also want them to look their best, so if you have any questions about a smile makeover, give us a call at 770-532-8521.

Common cosmetic dentistry procedures used in smile makeovers include teeth whitening, gum contouring, veneers, dental bonding, and dental implants.

We hope to see you in our Gainesville office soon!

“Keep Your Teeth Safe, Gainesville”

Gainesville GA Wouldn't You Rather Avoid A Root Canal?

Hopefully you are one of many health-conscious Gainesville residents who is finding ways to get outside or to the gym and get moving. There has been an explosion in the variety of activities offered by personal trainers, all-purpose Gainesville gyms, specialty facilities, and Georgia recreation departments in recent years. With all these exciting ways to exercise becoming commonplace, people in the Cumming, Norcross, and Athens areas may not be aware of the tooth risks associated with them.

I’m Dr. Joseph Weber, a concerned Gainesville dentist and fitness enthusiast, and I want to talk to you today about mouth protectors.

You might think that mouth protectors are only for ultimate fighters and football players, but actually mouth guards can and should be used during any activity where a blow to the face is possible. This will help you avoid expensive treatments such as root canals and dental crowns.

This includes many common sports such as pick-up basketball games, volleyball, gymnastics, and bicycling. When you have a properly fitted mouth protector, you can prevent broken or lost teeth as well as lip, tongue, and jaw injuries.

Mouth protectors come in three main types: stock, boil and bite, and custom-fitted. The stock mouth protectors are pre-formed and ready to wear. Unfortunately, they rarely fit well. You can find boil and bite mouth protectors at sporting goods stores in the Lawrenceville area. They are to be softened in water and then formed to your mouth (make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions). Custom-fitted mouth protectors can be made by your Gainesville dentist to make sure you have a perfect fit.

The soft tissues that line your cheeks and lips are especially susceptible to injury when you have braces or fixed bridge work, not to mention the damage that can be caused to the orthodontic appliances themselves. For these reasons, a mouth protector is extremely important for Gainesville patients undergoing these treatments. Your Gainesville orthodontist may even suggest a mouth protector for your lower teeth as well.

If you have questions about sports dentistry in Gainesville or any other dental issues, please contact my office and schedule an appointment. I look forward to meeting you.

Can You Name 9 Dental Specialties?

Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures Gainesville GA

Most Athens people probably know how a pediatric dentist differs from an orthodontist. Some Norcross folks may even know the unique focus of endodontists. But few Georgia residents are probably aware that the American Dental Association recognizes nine dental specialties. Today’s post looks at the specific disciplines within the fascinating world of dentistry and the years in which they were formally recognized by the ADA. (If you want a challenge, see if you can name all nine before you continue reading this post.)

Endodontics (1983): This area focuses on “the morphology, physiology and pathology of the human dental pulp and periradicular tissues.”1 If you need a root canal in Gainesville, you may require the services of an endodontist, but Dr Weber also has a lot of experience in this area and might be able to help you.

Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (2003): If you want to straighten your teeth, you need an orthodontist. Dentofacial orthopedic specialists correct facial deformities using many of the same types of appliances used in teeth straightening therapy.

Pediatric Dentistry (1995): Athens pediatric dentists provide dental care for infants, children and teenagers. They specialize in providing dental care for children that may need to be restrained or sedating during procedures.

Periodontics (1992): “Periodontics is that specialty of dentistry which encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth or their substitutes.”1 Periodontal specialists perform crown lengthening, pocket reduction, and soft tissue (gum) grafts. If you have severe gum disease

Prosthodontics (2003): Prosthodontists provide restorative dental procedures including dental implants, crowns, bridges, and dentures. They also perform cosmetic dental treatments including porcelain veneers, crowns, dental bonding, invisible fillings, and teeth bleaching.

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (1991): This specialty concerns “the nature, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. It is a science that investigates the causes, processes, and effects of these diseases. The practice of oral pathology includes research and diagnosis of diseases using clinical, radiographic, microscopic, biochemical, or other examinations.”1

Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology
(2001): Oral and maxillofacial radiologists analyze radiographic images (x-rays) for issues of the maxillofacial area.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (1990): Oral surgeons perform surgery on the teeth, jaw, face, and gums. These include facial reconstruction, cleft lip and palate correction, bone grafting, dental implants, and impacted teeth.

Dental Public Health (1976): This discipline focuses on “preventing and controlling dental diseases and promoting dental health through organized community efforts.”1

General dentists and cosmetic dentists in the Gainesville area are trained in a wide variety of dental procedures. However, sometimes your Lawrenceville general dentist will refer you to a local Lawrenceville specialist, or include a specialist as part of your treatment team.

Weber Family Dental Can Make Your Whites Whiter

Teeth Whitening For A Brighter Gainesville GA Smile

Hi, I’m Dr. Joseph Weber, an experienced Gainesville general and cosmetic dentist serving the greater Lawrenceville area. One of the most common requests I get from my dental patients is whiter teeth.

I am happy to say that Gainesville dental patients are in luck when it comes to teeth whitening in Georgia, because cosmetic dentistry procedures like teeth whitening and veneers are safe, effective, and affordable.

Some Gainesville patients might be interested in bleaching their teeth at home. There are many affordable teeth whitening products available at Cumming, Norcross, and Athens drugstores. Remember that even though you are doing this procedure at home, you should discuss it with your Gainesville dentist and report any sensitivity that may occur.

There are many dentists in the Gainesville area that offer in-office teeth bleaching which can often be done in one visit. Gainesville residents who do in-office bleaching usually appreciate the care that is given to protect the soft tissues of the mouth from the bleaching agent.

Any toothpaste that has an added polishing agent is considered a whitening toothpaste. For my patients, I always tell them to look for the ADA Seal of Acceptance when purchasing these.

As you can see, there are a lot of great ways to keep your teeth nice and white here in Gainesville.

If you’re interested in any of these whitening methods or a complete smile makeover, call Weber Family Dental at 770-532-8521. Our warm and friendly staff will schedule a cosmetic dental consultation at your convenience.

We hope to hear from you soon!

Danger Zone! 5 Signs Of Gum Disease For Norcross

Signs Of Gum Disease Your Gainesville GA Family Dentist Wants You To Know

Here’s the bad news for Lawrenceville residents: Periodontal disease, or gum disease, is a major cause of tooth loss among adults. And here’s the good news: This problem is easy to treat if it is caught in the early stages.

So, what should Athens, Cumming, and Gainesville dental patients be looking for?

1. Gums that bleed very easily

2. Gums that appear tender, swollen, or very red, or gums that have visible pus in between them when they are pushed

3. Your bite changes or your teeth suddenly don’t seem to fit together

4. Gums that are pulling away from the teeth

5. A bad taste in the mouth or chronic bad breath

Hopefully, you are not experiencing any of these things. If you are not removing plaque between your teeth, however, your gums are at risk. Brushing alone is not enough – make sure you floss daily.

Regular check-ups with your Cumming, Norcross, or Athens area dentist is another essential weapon in the fight against gum disease.
I’m Dr. Joseph Weber of Weber Family Dental. My practice serves the Cumming, Norcross, and Athens areas. We take pride in caring for our patients and want them to have a healthy and attractive smile. Many of our patients wonder if a smile makeover is right for them. If you’d like to know, schedule an appointment and we’ll take a look!

Our practice specializes in:

cosmetic dentistry
dental implants
porcelain veneers
dental crowns

Contact us at 770-532-8521 and a member of our warm and friendly staff can schedule a consultation and answer any questions you might have about veneers, cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening, and more.

We hope to hear from you soon!

5 Tips For Athens Residents With Mouth Sores

Visit Your Gainesville GA Family Dentistry Office for Tips About Mouth Sores

Hi. I’m Dr. Joseph Weber. When my Cumming and Norcross area patients get mouth sores, I advise them to evaluate what they’re eating and make some changes. By following these tips, you too can avoid the discomfort of eating and help to increase the speed of healing.

1. Eat soft or pureed foods. Don’t worry, you won’t have to eat baby food, plenty of adult dishes fit the bill, such as:

cream soups
yogurt
hot cereal
mashed potatoes
puddings

2. Keep your meals bland for a while. I know it’s no fun, but watch out for overly spicy, tart, salty or acidic foods while you have a mouth sore.

3. Also, keep it cool. Eat only food that is at room temperature or is served chilled.

4. Use a straw so that whatever you are drinking can bypass the mouth sore altogether.

5. Try to moisten dry foods. This can be done by adding sauces, dressings, and gravies to your meals. Yum!

I hope that these suggestions will help you the next time you suffer from a mouth sore. If you are looking for a dentist in the Lawrenceville area, consider my practice, Weber Family Dental. We have been serving Gainesville since 1991. Call us at 770-532-8521 to schedule and examination and consultation. We offer a complete menu of general and cosmetic dental procedures including:

“Be Wise About Your Wisdom Teeth, Lawrenceville”

Be Wise About Your Wisdom Teeth, Lawrenceville

Hi, I’m Dr. Joseph Weber, and today in the Lawrenceville dental blog we will be discussing the often misunderstood subject of wisdom teeth.

Wisdom teeth are sometimes called the third molars because they are even farther back in the mouth than the two sets of regular molars we all have. These four teeth usually erupt when a person is eighteen or nineteen.

Many dentists in the Cumming, Norcross, and Athens area recommend that wisdom teeth be removed to prevent misplacement in the mouth.

If a wisdom tooth doesn’t fully erupt, it may cause an opening in the gums that can attract bacteria and become infected. Some wisdom teeth are so misplaced that they can actually cause problems with the jaw bone. Both of these conditions cause severe pain.

If you are in the Lawrenceville area and are wondering if your wisdom teeth need to be removed, call us today at 770-532-8521
to schedule an appointment. We can assess the placement of your wisdom teeth and discuss a treatment plan.

We can also answer any questions you have about smile makeovers. Because there are so many quick and effective cosmetic dentistry procedures available, such as invisible braces, veneers, teeth whitening, and dental implants, anyone in Lawrenceville can have a perfect smile. I love giving my Lawrenceville patients the smiles they’ve always wanted.

Thanks for visiting the Lawrenceville dental blog, and keep Weber Family Dental in mind for your dental needs. We offer:

cosmetic dentistry
dental implants
porcelain veneers
dental crowns
