Can You Handle A Dental Emergency?

In Case Of Emergency Come To Your Gainesville GA General Dentist

At Weber Family Dental, we hope you never experience a serious dental emergency. It’s important, however, to know what to do in such a situation. Here is a quiz on dental emergencies and less urgent oral issues.

1. One of the wires on your braces breaks. What do you do?

a. Cut off the loose piece.
b. Put a piece of orthodontic wax on the end if it is irritating your tongue or gums. Schedule an appointment with your orthodontist to have it fixed.
c. If the wire has cut your gums, rinse with a solution of salt and water.

Both b and c are correct. If you don’t have a piece of orthodontic wax, you can use a cotton ball to cover the sharp end. If you cut off the loose end of the wire, you risk swallowing it.

2. Your five year-old falls off his bike, hits his face on the sidewalk, and knocks out one of his front teeth. What do you do before driving immediately to the nearest Cumming dental office or Lawrenceville ER?

a. Put the tooth back in the socket.
b. If the tooth is dirty, scrub it with a brush.
c. Put the tooth in milk.

The answer depends on whether it is a permanent tooth or a baby tooth. If a permanent tooth is knocked out, it may be successfully re-implanted if done quickly. Make sure you only hold the tooth by the crown, never touch the root. If the tooth is dirty, rinse it gently with water being cautious not to brush off any tissue attached. It is best to reinsert the tooth into the socket. This may not be possible with younger children. Because it is essential to keep the tooth from drying out on your way to your Cumming general dentist or nearest Lawrenceville area emergency room, you can put the tooth in a cup of milk. Baby teeth should not be reinserted because it can potentially damage the emerging tooth.

3. You lose a filling and the tooth starts hurting. After
scheduling an appointment with your Lawrenceville family dentist, what do you do in the meantime?

a. Save the filling.
b. Take an OTC pain reliever.
c. Put an aspirin on the tooth.

Both a and b are correct. Though your Lawrenceville dentist probably can’t use the same filling to repair the problem, it may reveal important information about the cause of the separation. Never put an aspirin on a tooth because the acid in it could irritate your gums.

4. One of your teeth suddenly darkens. What are the possible causes?

a. The nerve inside the tooth is damaged.
b. It is side effect of a medication you are taking.
c. Gum disease.
d. An infection.

The answer is all of the above.

For any dental emergency or other oral condition, call an urgent dental care office or Weber Family Dental in Gainesville. We have been providing quality cosmetic dental care for Lawrenceville residents since 1991. If you add our address and phone number (770-532-8521) to your phone contacts right now, you won’t have to search for it in the case of an emergency. When trying to save a knocked-out tooth, every minute counts.

7 Ways Dental Bonding Can Improve Your Smile In Athens

Cosmetic Dentistry Bonding To Improve Your Gainesville GA Smile

Dental bonding is a popular cosmetic dentistry procedure in the Lawrenceville area, but there are many patients who don’t know exactly what it is or when it is useful to have the procedure done. Today in the Lawrenceville Dental Blog, we explain 7 ways dental bonding is used in cosmetic dentistry.

The dental bonding procedure uses a resin material that is sturdy and tooth-colored. It is applied to the teeth while soft, like putty, and then hardened or set with a special light. The material bonds with the tooth and can then be shaped and polished.

Cosmetic dentists will usually consider the option of bonding when 1) decayed, 2) chipped, or 3) cracked teeth need to be repaired.

4) Large spaces between teeth can be filled with bonding material, and 5) roots can be protected by bonding after gums recede.

6) Discolored teeth can also be improved using the bonding process, and, since the material is easily shaped, teeth can be made to 7) look longer or just have the general shape changed. Bonding is often used, along with tooth whitening, when having a smile makeover.

Modern Dentistry With No Oxen Hooves In Lawrenceville

Modern Cosmetic Dentistry With No Oxen Hooves In Gainsville GA

Hi, my name is Joseph Weber and my staff and I at Weber Family Dental have been providing excellent dental care for the people of Georgia since 1991.

One of the most crucial elements of good oral health is daily tooth brushing with an effective toothpaste. There is a wide variety of toothpastes available. I recommend you use one with fluoride and make sure it has the ADA seal. This ensures that the toothpaste has been tested, claims are being met, and the ingredients are correct.

Just because a toothpaste claims to have a ‘whitener’ doesn’t mean it has fluoride.

Toothpaste as we know it has only been in existence since the late 1800s. Fluoride was added in 1914. The earliest evidence of toothpaste or dental cream dates back to 3000-5000 BC. The Ancient Egyptians pulverized oxen hooves, egg shells, pumice, myrrh, and water creating one of the earliest forms of toothpaste.

The Greeks and Romans began adding crushed bones and bark to the mix. The taste most likely was hard to take. During this same time the people of China and India were using a similar paste, but adding flavorings, like Ginseng and herbal mints making it a bit more palatable.

Lawrenceville toothpaste users have no excuse for not brushing their teeth daily with the toothpaste we have available today. If you do your part, we at Weber Family Dental can provide cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry and dental crowns, cosmetic dentistry, and dental implants.

The experienced staff at Weber Family Dental want to help make all Georgia smiles whiter and brighter. Contact us today so we can answer any questions you may have about tooth whitening , invisible braces, or cosmetic dentistry.

You Won’t Be Out Cold (Unless You Want To Be!)

Sedation Dentistry Athens

Does your heart start pounding at the mere thought of having a cavity filled? Do you get sweaty palms when you drive by any Athens cosmetic dental practice?

Many Gainesville residents who have improved their smile with cosmetic dentistry chose to use sedation. Though the terms “sleep dentistry” and “oral conscious sedation” are often used interchangeably, they are not identical. There are three main types of sedation dentistry.

Nitrous Oxide
The first level uses nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas” as it is sometimes called. Nitrous oxide has been used in Gainesville cosmetic dental offices for generations because it is safe and effective. It goes to work at the first inhalation, relaxes the patient during the procedure, but wears off quickly after the mask is pulled off. If you need a little help to get through dental treatment, but don’t want to be knocked out cold, nitrous may be your best option.

Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral sedatives don’t start working as quickly as nitrous oxide, but they help most patients achieve a deeper level of tranquility. These medications, however, do not usually produce complete unconsciousness. Thus, oral sedatives and nitrous oxide are used in “conscious” sedation. Two common sedatives used by Athens dentists are diazepam and triazolam.

IV Sedation
IV sedation uses medications similar to those used in surgery and results in true “sleep dentistry.” Most patients are completely oblivious to what is going on in their mouth. IV sedation is often used for procedures such as root canals, wisdom teeth extractions and multi-procedure smile makeovers.

Have You Thanked Your Dental Assistant Lately, Norcross?

Thank Your Gainesville GA Cosmetic Dental Assistant

Your Lawrenceville, Cumming, or Athens dental practice would be a very different place if it weren’t for the competent dental assistants who work there. Today in the Gainesville, Georgia dental blog we would like to highlight the importance of these hard workers who are often taken for granted.

Norcross dental assistants make your dental appointment much more effective, efficient, and safe. You, the patient, are prepared for treatment by dental assistants and, during procedures (such as filling cavities or tooth whitening) the assistants speed things along by passing instruments, holding devices, and recording information.

Most Norcross cosmetic dental patients would agree that anyone who helps to shorten their time in the dental chair is a person who deserves thanks!

Keeping the dental office clean and sterilizing instruments are other indispensable responsibilities taken on by dental assistants. What would we do without them?

My name is Joseph Weber. I am a cosmetic dentist who has been serving the Lawrenceville area since 1991. The dental assistants at my practice, Weber Family Dental in Gainesville, are world-class, along with the rest of our warm and friendly staff.

If you are looking for dental care in Gainesville, Cumming, Norcross, or Athens, please give us a call at 770-532-8521. “Brush Up On Your Cavity Basics, Lawrenceville”

Know How To Avoid Cavities From Your Gainsville GA General Dentist

Residents of Cumming and Gainesville use the word ‘cavity’ often when discussing oral health practices. Along with tooth whitening and other cosmetic dentistry procedures, cavities are a hot topic.

At Weber Family Dental we think it’s great that people in the Lawrenceville area are so conscious of their teeth, and we feel that having a greater understanding of exactly what a cavity is will help them take better care of their pearly whites.

Cavities can also be called caries or tooth decay. When a tooth is permanently damaged in the hard surface, tiny openings occur. These little holes are cavities. Different factors that contribute to tooth decay are:

Frequent eating
Consuming sugary beverages
Oral bacteria
Insufficient tooth brushing and flossing

Cavities may get so bad that you will see pits or holes in your teeth, but symptoms may be more subtle, such as sensitivity, pain when biting, or a toothache. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should call your Cumming, Norcross, or Athens general dentist today for an appointment.

If you are in the market for quality dental care in the Gainesville area, give Weber Family Dental a call. We have been treating dental patients in and around Lawrenceville since 1991. We can also answer any questions you have about cosmetic dentistry procedures such as veneers and dental implants.

We hope to hear from you soon!

To Chew Or Not To Chew In Gainesville

Family Dentistry In Gainsville GA

Hello Gainesville gum chewers, today we’re going to talk about that sticky wad in your mouth. You know that it can freshen your breath, but can it really help prevent cavities? That’s the question we’re asking in today’s Gainesville dental blog.

It really depends on the type of gum. Chewing regular sucrose-based gum can help remove bits of food from the surface of teeth, but that benefit is negated by the stream of sugar washing over your teeth as you chew.

However, gums with some alternative sweeteners have an added benefit for your pearly whites. Xylitol is a sweetener which not only has fewer calories than traditional sugars, but it also has antimicrobial properties that reduce plaque buildup. This means that xylitol inhibits the growth of bacteria that causes tooth decay.

So if you’re headed out to any restaurants in the Cumming, Norcross, or Athens area, bring a pack of sugar-free gum with you and pop it in your mouth when your meal is done. Of course, brushing and flossing are a better option for your oral health, but when you can’t brush, choose a sugarless gum with xylitol to chew.

I’m Dr. Joseph Weber, a cosmetic dentist in Gainesville. I want my patients to have the best oral health possible. My practice, Weber Family Dental, is located at 957 Enota Ave..

If you have any questions about how to improve your oral health, or if you would like to learn more about any of our cosmetic dentistry procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers, and complete smile makeovers, give us a call today at 770-532-8521.

We specialize in cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, and porcelain veneers. Call our warm and friendly staff today for an appointment!

“Don’t Take Stress Out On Your Teeth, Gainesville”

Don't Take Stress Out On Your Teeth Gainesville Hello, I’m Dr. Joseph Weber, a family dentist in Gainesville GA. At my practice I have noticed more and more of my patients with stress-related dental issues. Gainesville men and women may not think about it, but stress can do a number on your oral health.

Mouth sores, clenching and grinding, gum disease, and poor oral hygiene can all be exacerbated by stress.

Gainesville people who have difficulty managing stress need to realize that it can increase the risk of getting mouth sores such as cankers and cold sores. Most canker sores only last 7-10 days, but for relief from the irritation, we recommend our patients pick up an over-the-counter topical anesthetic at any Cumming, Norcross, or Athens drug store.

Clenching and grinding the teeth is common for stressed-out Lawrenceville residents, and often it’s done unconsciously. Here at Weber Family Dental our warm and friendly staff can determine if a night guard or other dental appliance is appropriate to reduce grinding.

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is exacerbated by stress because stress can result in an increase in dental plaque.

And Gainesville dental patients may find that when they are under stress it is more common to neglect their oral hygiene habits. Many people in the Cumming, Norcross, and Athens areas find that they eat more sugary snacks when they’re under stress.

If you’re concerned about the effect stress can have on your teeth, schedule an appointment at Weber Family Dental today. We treat patients from age 3 to 93 and we offer cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, porcelain veneers, and dental crowns. We hope to hear from you soon!
