Preventative Maintenance For Your Irreplaceable Smile In Gainesville GA

Preventative Maintenance For Your Irreplaceable Smile In Gainesville

Hi, I’m Dr. Joseph Weber of Weber Family Dental. If you are one of my existing general dentistry patients, welcome back. If this is your first visit, I appreciate you stopping by.

My warm and friendly team and I love taking care of our Gainesville GA area patients.

Today’s article is for Gainesville GA area people who are overdue for a cleaning and exam.

During dental deep cleanings, our hygienists thoroughly remove the plaque and tartar above and below the gumline. By scaling and planing, they remove areas where bacteria can easily multiply. If you are due for a cleaning, call us today at 678.928.9320
to schedule.

After your teeth have been cleaned, I perform a thorough examination. I check for overall tooth and gum health, the presence of cavities, gum pocket depth, bite issues, and signs of oral cancer.

Some Gainesville GA people mistakenly believe that they can skip visits with their family dentist if they don’t notice anything out of the ordinary. This attitude is risky. Many dental problems advance silently. When the patient experiences pain, much damage has been done. Gum disease, especially, often progresses unnoticed.

If you don’t have dental insurance, ask us about dental financing options. It costs far less to prevent problems than to treat them after they have become severe.

If you perform regular auto maintenance, you understand the wisdom of prevention. Don’t you value your smile far more than your car? Call Weber Family Dental today to schedule preventative maintenance for your irreplaceable smile.

Gainesville GA Residents Visit the Dentist

Posted by Dr. Joseph Weber — @ 12:02 pm under General Dentistry

Gainesville, Georgia Residents Visit the Dentist Whether you have lived in Gainesville GA for a long time, or just moving in to the area; taking care of your teeth eventually involves a visit to the dentist. We are Weber Family Dental located at 1146 S Enota Dr NE in Gainesville GA, and our specialty is cosmetic dentistry.

You can reach Weber Family Dental by calling 678.928.9320.

Going to the dentist for the first time in Gainesville GA, or if you have not been for while, can be an unsettling experience for both kids and adults. The very idea of a ‘dentist’ seems to hold negative connotation for many people. If you are an adult who is moving to the Gainesville GA area, or your child is preparing to visit the family dentist for the first time, here are a few tips that may help ease you into regular dental checkups and put you on the path toward increased oral health and wellness.

Choose a Gainesville GA dentist who is appropriate for your needs. When you meet your new general dentist for the first time, make an effort to ask questions about the care you will receive. Ask questions that are relevant to your situation including questions about experience, age range of patients, and recommended procedures for any conditions you may have. Get to know your Gainesville GA dentist so you feel comfortable with the care you will receive. It’s also important to get to know the office staff. Visiting the dentist will seem less of a chore when you feel you have trusted friends who are there to help.

Be prepared to provide your Gainesville GA dentist with information. Whether you are experiencing specific pain at that moment, or anticipating a problem, be sure to discuss everything with your dentist. Many patients become intimidated in the office environment and avoid expressing pain or discussing issues. As your dentist, I need to know everything you are experiencing and will be better prepared to help as you ask questions and express your concerns.

I understand that everyone is unique; what works for one person may not work for another. You know what works best for you, and the best way to have a good experience with a Gainesville GA cosmetic dentist is to communicate. Let me know what you are experiencing so that I can make adjustments and help you feel more comfortable and secure.

At Weber Family Dental, our warm and friendly staff will work to make your dental experience a pleasant one. We know it can be frightening to visit the dentist for the first time, or after a long while. We’ll do what we can to make you feel comfortable, secure, and among caring friends.

If you are in Gainesville GA and are ready to visit the dentist again, give us a call at 678.928.9320, or stop by to see us; we’re excited to meet you.

Our Gainesville Dental Team Takes Care Of You

Posted by Dr. Joseph Weber — @ 2:20 pm under General Dentistry

Gainesville Dental Team

At Weber Family Dental, each dental professional on our team allows our practice to operate smoothly and provide the highest caliber of dental care. Today’s Gainesville GA general dentistry article will focus on the duties of a dental assistant.

You probably think of the dental assistant as: “The one who suctions my mouth while the dentist is working on me,” or “The one who attaches the bib around my neck,” and you are correct. However, his/her knowledge of patient care and dental lab procedures is probably more extensive than you realize.

Competent dental assistants work behind the scenes at Weber Family Dental in Gainesville GA. They assist Dr. Joseph Weber during all dental procedures including basic oral examinations, tooth prep and cavity filling, as well as lengthy smile makeovers involving multiple procedures. Our competent assistants also work with our dental hygienists during dental cleanings and patient instruction.

When a dental client arrives for his/her appointment, the dental assistant has already been preparing for the visit. Before he/she is escorted to a comfortable chair in one of our pleasant patient rooms, the assistant has made sure the room is ready for the particular treatment being performed.

Whether the patient is receiving porcelain veneers, having their teeth whitened, undergoing a routine orthodontia adjustment, or settling in for a two-hour smile redesign with oral sedation, the dental assistant has set the stage for a comfortable and efficient procedure.

At Weber Family Dental, infection control is always foremost in our minds. Our dental assistants, dentists, and hygienists are vigilant about the sterilization of dental instruments and follow strict infection control protocols. The health of our patients and employees is our highest priority.

Dental assistants in Gainesville GA family dentistry offices may also prepare tray setups, make impressions for restorations, schedule appointments, take x-rays, and maintain and retrieve patient records. They must have a keen eye for detail and an excellent memory as they organize and stock the many different dental supplies in a typical office.

Weber Family Dental is located at 1146 S Enota Dr NE in Gainesville, Georgia. We provide general and cosmetic dentistry procedures including tooth whitening, bad breath treatment and dentures. You can read more about our services at http://www.weberfamilydental.com/about.php.

Periodontal Disease in Georgia

Posted by Dr. Joseph Weber — @ 8:31 am under General Dentistry

Periodontal Disease in Georgia Periodontal disease in Georgia is more common than you might think, and can be cured with varying degrees of treatment depending on the severity.

What is periodontal disease? According to this article on Wikipedia, periodontal disease is ‘the name of a collection of inflammatory diseases affecting the tissues that surround and support the teeth.’

Periodontal disease, more commonly called ‘gum disease‘, is an inflammation or infection of the gums. Periodontal disease can be very painful in some extreme conditions, and can limit your ability to eat normally. In some cases, periodontal disease can affect your smile, and can create cosmetic concerns.

If left untreated, periodontal disease can cause irreversible damage. When caught early and treated, periodontal disease can be little more than an inconvenience. However the best policy is to practice good dental hygiene to keep periodontal disease at bay.

One of the best ways to avoid periodontal disease is to get a regular dental check up at your local Gainesville family dentist.

Give us a call at 678.928.9320 to schedule your next dental checkup; we look forward to seeing you.  We also offer sedation dentistry for patients who are anxious about receiving dental work.

Beware Of An Acidic Diet In Lawrenceville

Posted by Dr. Joseph Weber — @ 4:12 pm under General Dentistry

Lawrenceville tooth strengthening Most Gainesville GA folks don’t often think of a tooth as a body part that fluctuates in strength. Our teeth seem to have a steady hardness and dependably grind food whenever we need them. However, teeth are dynamic organisms with chemical processes that occur continually.

The protective enamel that covers the softer interior is made of minerals. Enamel demineralizes (loses some of its density) when coming in contact with acids. Saliva can dilute and neutralize acid so the tooth can remineralize (re-harden). This process isn’t instantaneous, however. While the enamel is soft, the tooth is vulnerable to losing a microscopic outer layer of enamel. If the erosion continues, the much softer dentin is exposed. Eventually, the tooth may need to be extracted.

At Weber Family Dental, we are noticing an increase in cases of serious acid erosion. It is apparent that the typical Gainesville GA diet is becoming more acidic.

The list of acidic foods may surprise you. They include eggs, gravy, asparagus, chicken, cottage cheese, honey, fish, ham, butter, sour cream, aged cheese, and yogurt with active cultures. Generally, food with a high sugar or artificial sweetener content are highly acidic.

Now let’s talk about drinks. You probably already know that soda pop and wine are not good for your teeth. Gainesville GA teens that sip soda all day can have acid erosion while their young teeth should be at their strongest. In addition to soda, energy drinks are very popular in Georgia and Gainesville GA cosmetic dentists are noticing the effects on their dental patients’ tooth enamel.

If you drink soda or energy drinks often, you may want to drink water or chew sugarless gum after downing a can. Stimulating saliva production can speed up the remineralization process.

If your teeth have become more sensitive in general, or in response to hot or cold foods or beverages, you may have acid erosion. To schedule an examination with Dr. Joe Weber at Weber Family Dental, call 678.928.9320 today.

We are a full-service dental office with hundreds of satisfied clients in Gainesville, Cumming and Norcross. We are located at 1146 South Enota Drive, Gainesville, GA. We are working to raise awareness of the oral health dangers of acid erosion. We hope you have benefited from this Weber Family Dental blog article and look forward to your visit.  We offer sedation dentistry for anxious patients as well as restorative dentistry.

Wisdom Teeth And Your Gainesville Dentist

Posted by Dr. Joseph Weber — @ 6:32 pm under General Dentistry

Wisdom Teeth And Your Gainesville Dentist Wisdom teeth are the last of the molars (grinding teeth) to erupt from the gum. They usually appear in the late teens and early twenties. Not all people develop these teeth while others have from one to four.

Though some people never experience any problems with these extra molars, many times wisdom teeth can create serious dental complications. If the wisdom teeth do not have the room to develop and erupt normally, they are referred to as impacted wisdom teeth. An impacted tooth may never emerge from the bone and gum, emerge only partially, or come in sideways.

Impacted teeth can damage the adjacent molar, cause infection or trigger gum disease. Sometimes these problems cause no noticeable symptoms for a period of time. To prevent these serious complications, wisdom teeth are often removed.

Wisdom teeth symptoms include pain when opening mouth, gum swelling, bad breath, and pain when chewing. These indicators can be constant or intermittent.

To learn more about wisdom teeth extraction, call 678.928.9320 to schedule an exam at Weber Family Dental. Our warm and friendly dental team can recommend the best course of treatment.

Tooth Brushing Basics For Healthy Smiles In Gainesville

Posted by Dr. Joseph Weber — @ 11:04 am under General Dentistry

Gainesville Teeth Bleaching Why should everyone in Gainesville brush at least twice a day? Let’s take a look at why this is so important.

Family dentist Dr. Weber says brushing and flossing is the best way to prevent decay.

Brushing with fluoride toothpaste and carefully flossing removes the food from our teeth and inhibits the build up of plaque. If we let food stay on our teeth, the starches in the food will mix with the plaque. This nasty mixture forms an acid which immediately starts drilling into the enamel to form cavities. Brushing can’t get all the spaces between your teeth, so you’ve got to floss also.

Brushing and flossing keeps gums and bone healthy.

If you let gum disease go untreated, you can lose teeth that are cavity-free!

The progression of gum disease (gingivitis) goes like this:

  1. Plaque build-up irritates gums.
  2. Irritated gums pull away from teeth.
  3. Bacteria multiplies in the spaces between the gum and tooth.
  4. The bone holding the tooth is eaten by the bacteria.
  5. Say goodbye to the tooth.

The good news is that gingivitis can be reversed if detected early.

Call Weber Family Dental at 678.928.9320 to schedule a gum disease evaluation at our office with general dentist Dr. Weber in Gainesville.
